FAQ
Choosing to remodel your home is a big decision - and big decisions always bring with them big questions. Here are a few of the most common questions that our clients have asked us in the past.
Do I really need to permit my project?
A: Absolutely! Permitting makes sure that your project is being built to National Building codes. City inspections could be viewed as an insurance policy. Inspections of the work performed insure that the project is being built for your safety. Furthermore, if you ever plan to sell the house buyers always ask if the remodel or addition has been permitted. If it was not then that generally is a red fag for a buyer and it could negatively affect the price that you get for the house.
What is the first step to building a room addition?
A: The blue print. We have architects that we work with the can assist you in designing your room addition. Should you prefer to work with your own architect we will cooperate with them from the beginning of the concept to the end of the remodel.
Does your company assist with financing if necessary?
A: Since financing can be one of the most important and critical parts in the remodeling process we have established relationships with several lending institution that can give you different financing options for your home improvement project. Yes, 100% financing is available!
Do we need to leave our home during the remodeling job?
A: Not necessarily! Actually, most of our customers stay at home during the project. We try our best not to disturb the homes normal activities. We take a lot of different precautions to control the debris and dust in the areas that we are working in so it does not disturb other areas of the house. If the scope of the project is large and numerous areas of the house will be disturbed by the remodeling activities then you may want to find temporary housing. We can assist you in finding temporary housing if you choose to go that route.
Do you have insurance and a bond?
A: Absolutely! It is important for a home owner to employ a licensed contractor who has a general contractor’s license (B license) and adequate general liability coverage that will protect you as a homeowner.
Do you have your own workers or do you subcontract the job out?
A: Diablo Remodel has a team of full time employees as well as pre-screened subcontractors that we work with. When a general contractor tells you that they do all the work themselves then I would be a little skeptical. There are some specialty trades that we bring in on to a project to assist us when we feel that it is out of the realm of our expertise. We coordinate everything with our subcontractors and pre-screen them before hand to insure that they do good professional work.
Do we have to get involved with the city for permits or will you provide them?
A: Diablo Remodel will obtain the relevant permits as part of our service. Our representative will physically go to the City and deal with the different departments for attaining your permit for you.
